How to Point Your Domain to ApnCloud Using Nameservers
To use your domain with an ApnCloud hosting service, you may need to point the domain to the ApnCloud server by updating its nameservers. Nameservers tell the internet which DNS server is responsible for your domain.
Follow the steps below to point your domain to ApnCloud using the nameserver details provided with your hosting service.
1. Find Your ApnCloud Nameservers
First, check your ApnCloud service activation email or Client Area for the nameservers assigned to your hosting account.
Your nameservers may look similar to:
ns1.example-host.com
ns2.example-host.com
Always use the exact nameservers provided with your ApnCloud hosting service.
2. Log In to Your Domain Registrar
Go to the company where your domain is registered and log in to your domain management account.
This may be the registrar where you originally purchased or transferred the domain.
3. Open the Domain Management Section
Select the domain you want to connect to ApnCloud.
Look for an option such as:
- Nameservers
- DNS Settings
- Manage DNS
- Custom Nameservers
- Domain Management
The exact wording depends on your domain registrar.
4. Choose Custom Nameservers
If your registrar provides multiple DNS options, select the option to use Custom Nameservers.
Remove the previous nameservers if required and enter the nameservers provided by ApnCloud.
For example:
Nameserver 1: ns1.example-host.com
Nameserver 2: ns2.example-host.com
Do not use the example values above. Enter the actual nameservers assigned to your hosting account.
5. Save the Nameserver Changes
Review the nameservers carefully and save the changes.
Make sure there are no spelling mistakes, extra spaces, or missing characters.
6. Wait for DNS Propagation
Nameserver changes are not always visible immediately.
DNS propagation may take some time depending on your registrar, DNS cache, internet provider, and previous DNS configuration.
During propagation, some visitors may still reach the previous server while others may already reach the new ApnCloud server.
7. Confirm Your Domain Is Added to Hosting
Make sure the domain is also added to the correct ApnCloud hosting account.
If you are using Shared Hosting or Reseller Hosting, verify that the domain exists in the hosting control panel.
Changing nameservers alone does not automatically create the website or domain configuration inside your hosting account.
8. Test Your Website
After DNS propagation, open your domain in a browser.
For example:
https://yourdomain.com
Confirm that the website loads from the correct ApnCloud hosting account.
9. Check SSL After the Domain Resolves
After the domain points to the correct server, make sure SSL is installed and active if you want to use HTTPS.
Your website should normally load securely using:
https://yourdomain.com
Common Nameserver Problems
If your domain does not point to ApnCloud correctly, check the following:
- The nameservers were entered correctly
- The correct domain was updated
- The domain is active and not expired
- The domain is added to your hosting account
- DNS propagation has had enough time to complete
- You are using the nameservers assigned to the correct ApnCloud service
Important DNS Tips
- Do not change nameservers unless you have the correct replacement values
- Keep a copy of important DNS records before making major DNS changes
- Use the exact nameserver information provided with your hosting service
- Avoid repeatedly changing nameservers while DNS propagation is in progress
- Check email-related DNS records if your domain also uses external email hosting
